Different Ways to Consider ADHD, or spectrum disorders
Jul 04, 2025Rethinking ADHD Means Thinking Differently!
Here I Offer a Snapshot into A Whole-Body, Five-Pillar Perspective
What if ADHD isn’t a disorder to suppress, or medicate (which can absolutely offer relief, and may help some people create the positive shifts they seek) ... but a signal asking us to tune in more deeply?
What if these signals were compensations that are the best answer/s the body has?
Inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity — these are often seen as deficits. Disorders.
But what if they are messages from the body-brain system, indicating disconnection or dysregulation across multiple levels of communication?
That's how I see it, and why I look into all the different connection points in each person - from light to water, to mitochondria, to fascia, to breath, to nutrients, to thought waves, to connections, to toxins, the body operates as a symphony of signalling systems.
Does it make sense to you that when even one instrument falls out of tune, the entire rhythm can shift?
And I am all about marching to the beat of our own drum, listening to the prayer of our own heartbeat... but if our rhythm feels off, not happy, not enjoyable... then finding new pathways into how to shift the rhythm, the resonance, the coherence, could be powerful, yes?
Let’s explore a different way to understand ADHD through five interconnected pillars of human development and function:
bio-optic/photonic, biomechanical, biochemical, bioelectrical, and bioelectromagnetic,
all woven together through the element of water.
If you want a start point for learning about this, go here and use code PK50
1. Biooptic / Photonic Signalling
We evolved with light. We need light (and we need dark!). We also EMIT light, inside of us, all the time, until we die. Light is, at our core, who we are and how we live, and without the right light cues it is really, really hard to live well, to live healthily, and to live as our best selves.
I'm going to keep it as simple as I can...
Your eyes are more than sight-organs; they are timekeepers and regulators. And although you don't think of your skin as 'seeing' , it certainly is seeing light through many many protein 'eyes' called opsins!
Light enters the retina (and skin) and signals to the brain's master clock, regulating everything from waking to sleeping to appetite, to weight, to immune function, to detox capabilities, to microbiomes, to mood. Light based signalling helps you align with the day - with life, people, food, reproduction, rest.
Morning sunlight regulates dopamine, serotonin, thyroid and cortisol rhythms — core neurochemicals tied to attention, focus, cognition, mood and motivation.
But the massive, constant modern life input of artificial light (which is especially rich in blue light wavelengths) is changing our minds, and our bodies.
This is due to indoor lighting, all types of screen and device exposure (indoor and outdoor), and huge amounts of time spent living, working and/or studying indoors.
These modern life patterns have really disrupting our fundamental, foundational photonic rhythm. Many children (and adults) with ADHD-like traits have chronically disturbed light input, shifting circadian rhythm and neurochemical flow.
We need exposure to natural light, as much as possible, as often as possible, to reach our best rhythms
What kind of light are you feeding your eyes, brain, skin? Is it helping, or hurting?
2. Biomechanical / Fascia-Postural Influence
The body shapes the mind. Posture, movement, and fascial tone send constant information to the brain.
Retained primitive reflexes signal underdeveloped brainstem integration, often linked to birth stress, poor movement patterns, delayed crawling, or too fast to walking. This can be a big factor in ADHD as brain connectome just cannot 'wire up' right.
The fascia is a signalling web that influences emotion, proprioception, and regulation. When we have conscious or unconscious bracing, restriction, tightness patterns (I look at tongue, diaphragm, pelvis and feet first) then our body will be stuck in sympathetic dominance. We cannot regulate, or focus, or connect with others well, when in sympathetic (chronic stress) dominance.
Cervical instability can compress the brainstem, vagus nerve, and upper spinal cord — interrupting the regulation between body and brain. Without cervical stability, movement richness and fascial freedom, attention narrows, anxiety increases, and sensory noise overwhelms.
Could your tension, posture, or movement patterns be interrupting your ability to focus?
3. Biochemical / Neurotransmitter & Cellular Function
Nutrients are not just fuel — they’re messengers. So are ANTI-nutrients (eg trans-fats, excessive seed oils, refined sugar, processed foods, colours, dyes, preservatives etc)
Tryptophan, zinc, magnesium, and omega-3s (for a basic start point) are critical for neurotransmitter synthesis and synaptic health.... but our bodies are created from many, many more nutrients than that! If we don't EAT the right nutrients, how can we expect our mind or body to function well?
If we can't DIGEST nutrients because we are chronically stressed and in sympathetic dominance... how can we expect our mind or body to function well?
Under stress or inflammation, tryptophan is diverted into the kynurenine pathway instead of making serotonin or melatonin, or special structures within cells. This impacts mood, sleep, and cell and mitochondrial repair.
Toxins like glyphosate interfere with amino acid processing, and can mimic amino acids like glycine, disrupting tight junctions in the gut and brain barriers, allowing heavy metals and food proteins to affect the brain, creating inflammation that impacts mood, focus, sleep and so much more
Is your brain fog a sign of poor focus, or is your brain inflamed and undernourished?
4. Bioelectrical / Nervous System Rhythms
Every thought, every nerve impulse, is a voltage event. It is an electrical signal, in an electrical network.
The body is an electrical system.
ADHD brains often display unusual myelination patterns, firing patterns, theta/beta ratios, hinting at a dysregulated rhythm. Poor nutrient availability, breath mechanics and chronic stress flatten the voltage across membranes and disrupt synaptic clarity.
Voltage-gated channels require structured, mineral-rich, hydrated environments. Structured water, intentional breath, grounding, and clean nutrition restore cellular electrical balance.
Are you tuned into your own electrical rhythm — or short-circuiting from stress?
5. Bioelectromagnetic / Thought Waves and Coherence
You are an antenna, always sending and receiving signals. All day, every day.
Your body emits electromagnetic fields, measurable through EEG, MEG, and HRV. Thoughts, beliefs, and emotions carry frequency. They can either create coherence or scatter across the system.
Electromagnetic chaos from human made nnEMFs, internal stress, or disconnection from Earth (indoor lifestyle, rubber shoes) can reduce your body's internal signal strength. Grounding, nature, coherent thought, and intention can help restore this.
Could your beliefs and inner stories be shaping your focus and physiology in real time?
Water: The Silent Conductor
Structured water within cells acts as the medium for all of the above. It holds charge, stores and flows light, facilitates signalling, and organises matter. We are mainly makde of water. Never under-apprecaite that!
Disrupted mitochondrial function, electromagnetic pollution, and chronic dehydration all compromise this structured matrix, impeding healing, repair, and focus.
Are you watering your inner world with structure, safety, and rhythm?
A Final Thought from Me....
ADHD isn’t a fixed pathology.
I view it as an expression of a beautifully sensitive system seeking reconnection, rhythm, and resonance.
Not something to be fixed.
But someone to be seen, heard and held.
Let’s tune the instrument (in ourselves first!) before judging the song.
